Ankara has been a staple in Africa, although its origins trace back to an Indonesian fabric-dyeing technique called Batik. It has had a significant presence in African culture, from Dutch and English colonisers bringing the fabric to the continent to us making it our own.

Ankara has been used to tell many stories through its patterns; every colour choice, design, and pattern is intentional. In modern times, Ankara has been looked down on and degraded. More people opt for English-styled wear rather than the Ankara fabrics our ancestors made their own.
